In the un-redacted BRS reports, for 6/19/70, there is mention of a Couple at 1423 Roleen Dr receiving a letter, and 2 Oakland A’s tickets. The letter read ‘gift from Zodiac’. The tickets were for the 6/20/70 Game. The letter had been postmarked 6/18/70 from Vallejo(A Thursday). The Officer tagged it into evidence, and requested that the Couple contact an investigator. I don’t see any outcome, but I seem to recall a mention of this incident in the most recent FBI pages released under the Freedom of info act,but I can’t find it. Anybody remember this? The Officer noted some similarity to Zodiac’s writing in the report.

A couple things worth noting:

*If this is a real Z letter, it’s postmarked on a Thursday in Vallejo, out of the norm for Zodiac.

*The Street, ROLEEN DR, was the street that Darlene’s Friend lived many years on(at 521, although I am not sure they lived there at the time of this letter)

*The couple could not think of anybody who would play a joke on them, or have any reason to mail them tickets.

*The male who received the letter, worked at Mare Island Shipyard, as an Electrician.

Assuming for a second this could be a real Z letter, I would doubt that Z would randomly pick this couple out. Perhaps he was a Friend, co-worker, neighbor, etc? Maybe Z would get a kick out of seeing the police question his Neighbor, or if he was a co-worker, maybe he would get his jollies hearing his co-worker tell his story of getting the tickets. It may be worth exploring.

So, does anybody remember if there were details of this in the latest FBI release, and does that street sound familiar to anbody as far as Zodiac goes??? By the way, I know the name of the couple that received the letter

Did they go to the game?

I know that sounds like a weird questions, but if not, maybe they should have. Even if they did not use those exact tickets, but still sat in the seats. Undercover police could have been there watching and video taping all the people in the area, people that tried to communicate with them, or someone that kepts looking over. Who knows maybe he would have sent them over beers or something and it could have been traced back.

Sandy Darlington, friend and colleague of Richard at Good Times, was apparently a big fan of the Oakland A’s — I found her 1981 book titled, "The New Oakland A’s," listed on amazon. I’m assuming this was the same Sandy Darlington that worked for GT. I also read on Tom’s site that Gaikowski was hanging out with The Merry Pranksters in May, 1970.

I don’t know if they went to the game or not,but you would think, perhaps, Z might have bought a seat close to them just in case they went

Isn’t Roleen Drive in James Owen’s neighborhood?

Wow, never thought about that. Here’s your answer:

A) is Owen’s house at 1735 Mini Dr & B) is 1423 Roleen Dr….actually a straight line  I somehow doubt that Owen could see the doorstep of the couple at 1423 Roleen, but if he could, that would be pretty interesting

The streets that surround the house the letter was mailed to seem to be ALICE DR, DAVID CT,ECHO SUMMIT RD. Any of these streets of interest as related to the Z case? My theory would be that Z may live in one of these houses if he really sent those tickets, and may want to watch the police question the neighbors. Again, I am skeptical that Owen could see the doorstep from his home, although it is less than a quarter mile and in a straight line

Zodiac probably rocked the Dennis Eckersly (sp?) mustache in the 80s!

I would have thought he would have been a Rollie Finger’s man myself.

Did he play for the A’s? I only remember him as a Brewer. Eckersly had a pretty cool mullet!
