Hi All,
Something interesting that struck me about Bryan’s recollection was his description of Z’s accent. He described Z having a slight drawl, but not southern. Do we think Z was faking? If so, why? He didn’t expect Bryan to be living and talking after the attack. Also, when people try to put on an affected drawl, they usually go way past a slight drawl to some flavor of a southern accent. I’m not even addressing that Bryan felt that Z was uneducated. I know Slover said Z had no accent, however this could be colored by her own accent/ear. Not to mention it was over the phone, and a much short convo than Bryan had. So having said all that, what do we think?
P.S. Sorry if this isn’t new, but I haven’t seen these specific points brought up broadly for POI’s.
Nancy Slover said at a TFM that the closet voice to Zodiacs’s she had heard was the voice of the actor who played ALA in the movie Zodiac. That was before Gyke sent shivers up her spine, when she heard his voice recordings. The actor had been in the movie Fargo and was born in Colorado .

Ted K was from Illinois.

I think she meant it sounded like his,not that he was the Zodiac. He was too young

there was that thing about the phrase "fiddling and farting"being a texan expression.not sure about that.my dad was an English man raised in india and he used to tell me I was fiddling and farting around all the time.he had no links to texas.also,if we don’t go down the zodiac spelled incorrectly on purpose road,is it possible that some of those errors are indicative of a particular accent.I’m thinking words like "victom" etc.not saying I believe that’s the case, just throwing it out there

And in his first police interview, Hartnell DID say that the Zodiac mentioned Colorado during the assault…

Nancy said ALA’s voice didn’t remind her of the Zodiacs Phone call but the actor who portrayed ALA in the movie voice sounded like Z’s?
I understand that Z used some British-type phrases, such as "Happy Christmas" in his communications. I wonder if the accent Hartnell heard might have been British?
I’ve got to believe Hartnell could discern a British accent. However, a person with a British accent trying to sound like an American…
Just don’t think there is any way to tell one way or the other. Seems like a blind alley to me.
Why colorado…what connection could colorado have to z???….im not totally against entertaining an accent angle and z being a so cal transplant..but not really going into that blind rivet hole…interesting theory though at this point

Some people from Wales and SW England sound almost American. Officer Foukes’ description always seemed strangely specific to me. Maybe he was on to something.

In the Zodiac movie, several actors play Zodiac so he looks and sounds a little different in every scene, in order to confuse the viewer. Clever casting.
I think given the other evidence and what little we know about the Zodiac and other serial killers, it’s most likely the Zodiac spoke in a monotone. There could be lot’s of reasons, but there are several mental illnesses that will cause this, autism, and psychotic (melancholic) forms of depression that can accompany schizophrenia and bipolar.
I know people will roll their eyes like they did with the "schizophrenic gate", but the difference here is that we have a lot more certainty that he spoke this way, vs that he walked funny. In fairness to Hartnell he later felt the voice may have been disguised, so who knows.

Essendo Italo-Americano aveva un accento italiano. Come in Italia al Processo del 1994 sul Monster of Florence aveva un accento americano.
Hartnell said that he didn’t have an accent or a drawl, but he did have a very recognizable cadence to his speech pattern. He said he would recognize the cadence and pattern of his speech today if he heard it.
“Murder will out, this my conclusion.”
