Unreal. Z like symbol, multiple letters, and double postage as well.
Proof of ‘Zyncronicity’- it’s real. On the other hand, Zodiac could have read about the Bates case and the letters in her case after he read it in a detective magazine, as her story and details was available PRIOR TO Zodiac

Breaking news in a murder case is announced via comments in an online forum? That is the only attribution I see… a web forum.
This breaking news coincides with certain products being offered for sale, too.
That was too much!
Zero attribution other than a web forum, which to my mind makes it even less credible than hearsay.
Also, nothing in the media to corroborate the claim at all. None to dispute it either. I think Uri is bending more spoons.

I assume that this is going to be addressed in a police report. I am sure Tom can chime in here, I do not want to speak for him, but you can’t put this genie back in the bottle. If you declare something like this, it better be official.

If anyone has direct evidence that the “Bates had to die” letters were publicized prior to Avery, I’d love to see it. They are not mentioned in the Inside Detective article.
Typed letters, addressed but unstamped were sent to the Riverside Homicide Detail and Riverside Press Enterprise on November 29th 1966. The Bates letters were mailed to Riverside Police and the Press Enterprise also.
Confession letter: I said it was about time. She asked me “about time for what”. I said it was about time for her to die.

Well those three Bates scrawls are probably some of the least likely candidates for a Zodiac communication in all the Zodiac communications that are wobbly. So is it really a shock? Probably not as much as I thought it would be. What’s a bigger shock to me is the bit about not being involved in the Zodiac investigation. Given all the other evidence, that makes very little sense except to want to keep pressing Barnett as the culprit despite the physical hard forensic evidence including mtDNA pointing away from him. Why would Barnett write a letter incriminating himself? The writer says he killed CJB because she brushed him off making it look like she knew him and he was trying advances on her. You only write something like that if she is a total stranger, just like the other strangers the letter talks about.

No mention of DNA from the Bates letters. Just the 2016 letter.
The weird thing is that Wikipedia had been reporting, for a while, that the Bates letters were deemed a hoax via DNA, and nobody knew where that info came from.
Also — announcing a “set” of fake Zodiac letters without specifying which seems pretty pointless. Hopefully there’ll be more info later.

I can’t see this being anything but good news. In my mind it means two things:
1. Zodiac was not responsible for the Bates murder, and we can eliminate that from consideration in this case. All of those seeming connections and coincidences have no bearing now. We can take a fresh look now.
2. Zodiac was clearly lying about his involvement in the Bates case in the 1971 LA Times letter. This should raise serious questions about his honestly regarding Kathleen Johns and others.
This is a very big, very good development that hopefully leads to several other breaks.

It’s not very cut and dry unfortunately. No specifics mentioned. We don’t know if the author of handwritten Bates notes was author of confession letter. etc
