with a phpbb board it’s often caused by a change to the cookie settings (either manually or during an upgrade). made any recent changes?

if it does it consistently, try clearing your browser cache and logging back in.

I have no problems with the board logging me out. One thing I have noticed, though. is the thing at the bottom that says "Users active in the last 24 hours" should probably say "Users active in the last 24 years" LOL.
It never resets, and I know it used to work. It’s up to 193 users as I write this, and it only gets bigger. I imagine that the date is set wrong somewhere in the board settings.

i have not had that issue in firefox or in safari on ios. are your issues all on the same network (home wifi, work wifi, etc)? getting logged out like that usually indicates an issue with the cookie or the browser’s cache. if you run add-ons like ghostery or tracker blocking software sometimes cookies will get removed when you close your browser. if you use a proxy for your web connection it’s possible that the cookie is getting re-downloaded when you open a new session. if you use privacy mode or otherwise have your browser set to delete your cache when you exit you can have the issue.

I use Google Chrome too. Haven’t had any issues with getting logged out in quite some time now that we got a new service provider and Wi-Fi. The wi-fi was going out intermittently, which would log me out of the server.

It’s both home & work networks, using 2 different kinds of Browsers, on multiple computers. I’ve blown out my cookies, cleared history, and flushed my IP, and still have the issue. When I use my Iphone, it happens 100% of the time, which is not new, that has been doing that for months

This is assuming the phpBB dev’s are using cookies for authentication and ‘security’.

Without getting overly technical, cookies are client sided (embedded into your web browser) and can actually be tampered with, it is likely the dev’s are using sessions, a super global variable which can be initiated after a successful login for instance. This is server sided, and cannot be cleared/flushed/deleted.

Does the log-out occur after inactivity? Or even when you are browsing and active on the site? Do you check "remember me" when logging in?

Does it happen on other sites or noticeably more so this one?

After looking today, seems like it happens more at home and not as much at work. Typically, I log in and then look at the front page before clicking into a specific section like the SUSPECT section for example. After I look it over, I either click back, or on INDEX,etc. and then I am logged out. This same thing happened before for me(and perhaps others)and I think it cleared up after a couple days. There is a PHPBB help forum, but it’s down because it’s servers were wiped out or hacked, etc. Not sure, but I can’t get help from there

i’ve seen similar issues at businesses which utilize web monitoring tools such as cisco’s ironport. there are settings that can impact secure traffic, session cookies, and login sessions. i know that’s not much help, but if you’re only seeing it at work then the issue might lie outside of your ability to correct.
