Most of the SR victims, e.g. Franz Valley road, were found nude, some with only one earring (trophy).
Zodiac said he would change his MO to confuse the cops. Perhaps he felt confident enough to indulge in rape after evading detection.
Almost definitely an error by the reporter. I think Tom Voigt confirmed that on the other site.
Personally I prefer to stay hopeful until we get an official confirmation instead of that of a person who after all is not an investigator.
Are you saying the reporter is an investigator?
It’s a sloppy article, and it’s unlikely he has a grasp of the case.
If a quote from an LE source stated that a profile was obtained and is being run through Gedmatch – then you have a story.

No, I’m not saying the reporter is an investigator. I’m saying that we can’t be fully sure until someone who actually is an investigator confirms the whole thing.

I agree. It’s false until proven otherwise.
Especially since the statement is already questionable – "a DNA sample from one of the crimes" – since there are no confirmed Zodiac crimes in Sacramento County.
If the news-article statement is referencing a letter they are testing, that’s not ‘a DNA sample from one of the crimes.’
If it’s the DOJ being referred to, then that’s not "Sacramento County investigators" – that would be ‘California Department of Justice Investigators’.
Again, in my opinion careless and likely erroneous work by the media – reminiscent of the blockbuster announcement made at the end of the recent Travel Channel show – which turned out to be false.

Hopefully this is what the journalist meant. He is being accused of mixing up the Zodiac and GSK cases, which is confusing given 100% accurate GSK DNA already exists.
Journalists with credibility don’t make those kinds of mistakes. I tried to contact the reporter – asking him if he was sure of his facts – but got no reply.
The Sac Bee will hopefully be looking into the statement this week. I wouldn’t keep your fingers crossed.
The question is, why would Sacramento need to submit evidence for analysis to get a DNA profile that already exists in the case of GSK? The statement only makes sense as the journalist wrote it: more Zodiac evidence being submitted to get a DNA profile, following up Vallejo PD’s efforts earlier in 2018. This is not the dynamite news of DNA already being uploaded to GEDmatch, but is still worth being optimistic about if accurate. Alternately, someone on reddit suggested the journalist made a typo and meant to refer to "San Francisco County investigators", implying letters to the SF Chronicle or evidence from the Paul Stine murder being submitted.
Reddit user quote:
They had a rope, with which Zodiac tied the victims at the lake Berryessa (he was wearing gloves, but he was preparing the rope at home with his bare hands) and a rag, with which he wiped the glass and dashboard after killing the taxi driver. In the summer of 2013, San Francisco police spokeswoman Pamela Hofsass stated that they definitely have the DNA of the Zodiac.
In 2013, there was a public screening of ZODIAC, where Hofsass appeared to be referring to the 2002 "partial profile."

There was rampant speculation at the time about some kind of surprise, secret DNA breakthrough, but that was obviously not the case.
As for the Redditor’s other remarks, they must be thinking of the bloody glove…I’m pretty sure Zodiac took the rag with him.

No doubt. I was only referring to quotations of preexisting sources.
In conclusion, we can only hope there is some truth to this confusing report and the odds of solving this case have been increased.
One thing we’d have to assume by now is the Nancy Bennallack crime was not DeAngelo.
