Who was the Fairfield letter written to, and where was it mailed from? Do you have a scan of the envelope?
March 15, 1970
In Santa Rosa, a man frightened three separate women motorist in an identical manner, time was between 3-4 am. At 5.10 am the police stopped a man whose auto and license number matched their descriptions. He was identified as a Vallejo resident in a ‘1962-1964 white Chevrolet’. The man, about 23, was stopped after he had followed a woman right into the post office parking lot. He claimed that he was lost and looking for a way out of town. The police let the man go and escorted him out of town.QT
I honestly would not be surprised if this guy for example would turn out to be Zodiac. Lately with those old cold cases being solved, where it has turned out the perpetrator was basically someone who was questioned but not suspected, I’ve started thinking more and more that if Zodiac is ever solved, he will not be a complete unknown.
I believe that came from Graysmith. Do you have a source – or a document?
Now someone has posted a tweet on reddit saying the reporter had Zodiac mixed up with EAR/ONS. Shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up
Sorry about this bad news, everyone. I almost feel guilty for making this thread (though the mistake is not my fault). Regardless, I do hope other LE departments might submit evidence for new DNA analysis like Vallejo PD have.
Why would they send anything about Deangelo to GEDmatch? They already know who he is.
The revised article said results are still pending and maybe they’ve resubmitted again if I understand the article right so this still isn’t terrible news – it’s rather good in my opinion!

I’m interpreting it that they didn’t send anything new from DeAngelo to Gedmatch – that the writer mixed up what Sac County did with DeAngelo’s sample last spring when they were tracking him down, with what VPD is doing now re the Zodiac.

The article simply re-states what was announced by VPD in May. I saw no new news in the article at all.
Should have guessed
the writer mixed up what Sac County did with DeAngelo’s sample
I thought it was Ventura County, not Sacramento County?
It was clarified for me to know it happened in the first place and certainly news that the status was pending instead of dead. In May a lot of people were saying that Vallejo really didn’t resubmit anything because there wasn’t any actual DNA to send. It remains to be seen if the envelopes produce anything but they haven’t reported failure so i think that’s a good sign there is some DNA they think they can get at the very least.

That’s a good question. Pretty sure the Sacramento County Sheriff had the lead in the case, and ran the Ventura sample.

VPD announced in May that they re-submitted the letters for testing – so unless you don’t believe law enforcement, that’s what they did.
Since then, there’s no news.

I’ve been trying to read up on it, I’m not that familiar with the GSK case, but it seems it was Paul Holes who ran it through GEDmatch, not Sacramento County. I’m not real sure about any of this however.
