Zodiac had a car at Lake Berryessa. The girls originally saw him in the parking lot when they arrived, inside his car. We know that Zodiac parked his car next to Bryan Hartnell’s so he obviously drove the distance. The two events also happened two hours apart. I believe the girls saw the same guy, but Zodiac was obviously staking out the park/lake looking for a victim/victims.

The Zodiac was described as a large man by everyone who saw him at LB. The footprints they found were deemed to be of someone who was at least 220 lbs. Watch the first police press conference from Sept 1969. He was described by the police officer as a "very large man."

the girls saw a man. some people think that man is the killer, the zodiac, and others think that man was just a random creep.

One thing’s for sure, the Berryessa sketch and the SFPD Zodiac sketch don’t seem to look much alike, but Ross certainly is a close match for the SFPD sketch

I think Ross was wearing a wig at Lake Berryessa.

Seems like there are a few possible scenarios that would explain the variance in the sketches of Zodiac.
1. There happened to be another guy who seemed suspicious at Lake Berryessa
2. The three girls found "Sandy" to be suspicious because they were being questioned.
3. Zodiac wore a wig/dyed his hair
4. Zodiac had a partner
5. There was more than one point person as Zodiac
6. Zodiac took responsibility for both Berryessa or Stine but Zodiac didn’t commit one or both of the crimes (Zodiac copycat)

Or it was the same guy at both Berryessa and Stine. Why is that so hard to believe?

He probably just had grown his hair, then by PH had shaved it into a crew cut. Both sketches have similar features (eyes, noses and lips). The Berryessa one tries to illustrate greased brown hair.

Since this thread is about Ross, it would make sense that at a time when long, natural hair was in style, Ross might have had greased up, out of style hair. Seems logical knowing how Ross was an awkward person.

But that is what the news article described — so it’s difficult to refute, IMO. He clearly wasn’t in a rational state of mind as well, which would explain the lack of clothing.

I was just going from personal experience. I started gaining weight in my early 30’s, but could still run the streets naked if I wanted to. Now I am 36 and gained even more weight and have no energy to do anything like that. That is what I think happened to Ross. He eventually just got so lazy and overweight and it killed him.

I have always thought that the man at LB was not the same man at the Stine scene.

But why?

Did this a few years ago to blend the two composites:

Thank you for this. I’ve always maintained that the sketches of the guy at LB and the suspect at PH are virtually identical (save for the hair). Plus the LB POI’s actions are seamlessly consistent with the kind of pre-offense behavior I’d expect from Bryan and Cecelia’s attacker.

Why is it hard to believe that he might be wearing a wig? After all, he was wearing a whole get up. Not to mention he was committing a crime in broad day light and had special glasses on.

Either that or he had longish hair and cut it after the attack, also perfectly plausible. I just think the description the girls gave were too similar to the description by Hartnell. Given the location of the attack, and how odd the man was acting with the girls, I think it’s the same person.

I was just throwing out possible explanations. I think he did alter his hair in some fashion. As for the weight thing based on his description sounds like Zodiac probably carried his weight well. As an example most people are shocked when I tell them my weight as they usually think I’m 40 lbs lighter than my actual weight.

I, too have a thick build similar to Z (No I wasn’t even born for any of his activities) which leads me to believe that most people would have a hard time giving an accurate weight.

The physical description could definitely be Ross. As for LB, it tells us a key thing, that Z must have owned or had access to a blue 1966 Impala.

Could Ross have owned one?

Was that the car the girls described? I remember the color was blue (or blue-silver), but I wasn’t sure what the make was.

It was "sky blue" and a late model Chevy with long tail lights.

The long tail lights were only available on the 66-67 Impala, they changed the lights after 1965 to this "long" style:
