Over the past several weeks, I’ve been trying to explore the ideas in this thread in a practical way. I’ve written a webcrawler to scrape together information on people living in Solano or Napa County in the years 1967-1971. Of course, Z could have lived elsewhere, but Rossmo’s geographic profile points to Mare Island and American Canyon as hotspots for Z’s homebase. I may include Contra Costa County later, but there were way more people living there at the time than Solano and Napa, and the point of this exercise is to narrow down the list of possible POIs.

Currently, there are 163,441 distinct names in the database. Slightly over half are expected to be female, though I haven’t yet found a foolproof way to automatically identify gender. I’m also gathering up birth dates and whatever other information I can find. If anyone has web sources that might be good candidates to scrape for information, please let me know. All suggestions for this project are welcome!

Though I’m not a fan of the "RH" theory, one of the cool things I can do, is quickly identify all the RH’ers in Napa and Solano (there are 1026!) during the time period (see below).

none of the names is a match to the cipher in a way that e.g. the third letter is equal to the third but last letter (‘N’ symbol) as well as the first letter is identical to the second but last letter (‘A’ symbol).

It is quite easy to check out such a list of names..you are welcome to send more data, e.g. all male Californians born 1940-1950 or all male Californians with the first name ‘Paul’. However I need them in written text as pictures or scan copies wouldn’t work.

To check out 100,000 names actually takes only about a few seconds, so with the right database it could be worth a try. I like the project and regarding the method:

‘1 = 12’ and ‘3 = 11’

seems to be good enough to filter a thousand names without even finding one match. Longer names, e.g. shortened in the middle around the 8-symbol, could lead to some confusion somehow. With almost no name being shorter than 3 letters, the method above appears to be solid to even check hundreds of thousands of names.

Thanks for checking QT. I’ve included text files of both sets of names in the post. Both lists can be downloaded from the links.

The main obstacle to developing the database of names is the rate-limiting features of websites (i.e. they only allow so many requests per second). It’s going to take a while to pull together quality data… but my computer works 24/7. I’ll release all the data to the community as a sqlite database when it’s done. It’s kind of neat to think that Z may already be buried somewhere in the database. Just have to tease him out.

Three major pieces of info on each candidate that may never be found are height, weight and hair color. Too bad California expunged the old driver license data.

All others do not match. So far, the test did not check the 7th letter (5=9=7), however two names would fit that one as well: ‘Elsie Petersen’ and ‘Tuana Yamamato’.

More names to be checked would be good..the procedure took seconds only, guess I’d be able to cross-check up to 10 million names easily. If Z had given his real name hidden behind the cipher, this method could lead directly to his identity.

11 million ‘Paul’s but no idea of how to get them as one list..

For my part, Elsie Petersen came up in a search for people living in Napa or Solano County in any of the years between 1967 and 1971 whose name contains 13 characters.

For my part it is just because the first and the second but last letters are the same (E from both, ‘Elsie’ and ‘PetersEn’). This structure is equal to the A symbol of the ‘my name is’ cipher. Then again the 5th letter is equal to the 7th and the 9th (also the letter ‘E’, which is ok if Z had used multiple symbols for ‘E’ – in that case it represents the circled 8 symbol). And finally the third letter plus the third but last letter is identical, too (‘s’), like in the cipher.

So these three structures may let us eliminate all other names. Elsie Petersen’s name, with 13 letters and those structures, would somehow a match. There even is a Elsie Petersen living in Sacramento, however I somehow doubt any connection to Z. As long as there is no direct connection, it is as good as ‘SARAHTHEHORSE’ – which is a match, too.

This somehow shows how ‘rare’ the structure actually is. This doesn’t mean, however, that no names are matching this structure. Some obviously do, so this structure is actually to our advantage.

Over the past several weeks, I’ve been trying to explore the ideas in this thread in a practical way. I’ve written a webcrawler to scrape together information on people living in Solano or Napa County in the years 1967-1971. Of course, Z could have lived elsewhere, but Rossmo’s geographic profile points to Mare Island and American Canyon as hotspots for Z’s homebase. I may include Contra Costa County later, but there were way more people living there at the time than Solano and Napa, and the point of this exercise is to narrow down the list of possible POIs.

Currently, there are 163,441 distinct names in the database. Slightly over half are expected to be female, though I haven’t yet found a foolproof way to automatically identify gender. I’m also gathering up birth dates and whatever other information I can find. If anyone has web sources that might be good candidates to scrape for information, please let me know. All suggestions for this project are welcome!

Though I’m not a fan of the "RH" theory, one of the cool things I can do, is quickly identify all the RH’ers in Napa and Solano (there are 1026!) during the time period (see below).
