These are my FBI files, or should I say, FBI tidbits, scraps, or leftovers. In recently clearing out my computer to make the switch to my new one, I have come across some various FBI pages that I have had. Most of these, I simply found interesting, some of them, I may have been planning to use in helping me get documents & z letters released under the Freedom of information act.

As it stands now, I am convinced, I likely have gotten everything in the Z case that the FBI is willing to release to the public. I have gone at them multiple times for multiple things that they never released. I am likely done requesting anything more from them at this point.

In this thread, I will post some of the stuff I have, maybe somebody has some ideas, or can use some of it??? Sorry if any of this was posted by me previously, most of this stuff I do not recall posting. Anyhow, if people have any interest, ideas, or thoughts about this stuff, please share it here.

This 1st memo, is about a man with last name of COX. He was a suspect, and somehow, they forgot to redact his last name here. He seemed to be linked to the Presidio, and looked similar to the Stine sketch of Zodiac. One big mistake by investigators, was having his cursive signature compared against the printed zodiac letters to see if they match(you cant do that). Anybody know of a COX of interest in this case?

This next page references a April, 1978 unconfirmed Z letter, which is the one I thoought we already knew about from 4/24/78. However, this memo dances all around that date, never mentioning that date, and actually has inter-dept communications as far back as 4/5/78. In fact, what I found weird, was that they chose to include Jacksonville FL FBI in on this little party. Hmm, I wonder why? Some Z activity linked to Jacksonville?

1986 Letter? I know of the 1986 letter, referencing the horror movie, ‘THE CAR’, but that supposedly was mailed May of 1986. This one is March of 86, postmarked in Los Angeles, but seems pretty flat, and didn’t seem to impress the FBI guys too much as being possibly from Z.

This last FBI memo seems to involve questioned Zodiac documents from the states of CT & TNin the late 80’s.

These are very hard to read, and very dark. I will give you an abbreviated version of what is mentioned:

*A letter dated, 4/21/88 mailed to a redacted address in New Canaan, CT.

*2 page letter(front & back) beginning, "this is"

*Envelope was postmarked 4/13/88(postmarked before the date the letter was dated)

*Then mentions, a 6 page letter, front & back

*Accompanied by sheet of paper bearing hand printed letter(front & back)beginning, "this is the zodiac"

*Accompanied by printed cut out entitled, ‘Chinese zodiac’

*Accompanied by a printed cut out beginning, "many chinese believe"

*Also included was a McDonald’s form entitled "filet o fish/chicken mcnuggets/pies station observation checklist

Report mentions, although much of what is written in this material can be traced to Zodiac using it previously, no definite connection can be made between this material and zodiac.

I seem to recall that Chatanooga, TN was the source for this McDonalds stuff, but I have to see if I can verify that. I would love to see this stuff, whethre its by the real Z or not.

I have requested all of this stuff multiple times, and never been able to get it. And there were alot more. Off hand I remember these questioned zodiac docs:

*Letter & Tape cassette found in a phone booth in CA

*A written threat to a Gunny Sgt in the military, his last name was Kraemer/Kramer, something along those lines

* A letter entitled, ‘Zodiac & the Riddler’

There were more, but I dont remember them off hand, wish I could have got more released :?

Morf I blew the FBI letter up and I am thinking that the April letter they are writing about, could be the April 20 1970 letter, becase the 0 didn’t have the line through the middle to make it an 8, it is blurred but the line is missing. The other thing is the time that they show it was post marked was 5 am, that is very close to the 4am I saw in the Z book. All of the other April letters were post marked in the pm.

Jacksonville FL could have been a place that Cox once lived , arrested in or stationed at and they wanted that information ?

I am sure that most everyone has figured out some of the blacked out portions of that letter, like Ken Narlow’s name for Napa and David Toschi for SFPD. I am wondering if Cox’s first name could have been Robert ?

Yes. I wonder if LE thought of revisiting the comparison after the authentication of the ‘SLA’ card in ’74? Or any of the other other exemplars they had containing cursive. It is only 3 letters "sla" to work with but at least it’s cursive.

I don’t know Chief, he’s very smart or very dumb.

I would check it againest the letter to Mary, Donna’s sister. Even though some people don’t believe it was from Zodiac, I would not disregard it !

Ted Bundy was arrested in Florida in February, 1978. Maybe as part of their investigation of Ted Bundy, the FBI in Jacksonville was communicating with the FBI in Sacramento in April, 1978?

Awesome thread.

Just out of sheer curiosity, I am from the UK and not too familiar with the FBI. How do you guys go about obtaining documents from them? I appreciate its under the ‘freedom of information’ act, but do you literally just email them with you intended person(s) and a valid reason to why you need access to the documents?

Very curious to hear how that system works, was never aware of it.

Vince anyone, including yourself, can request FOIA records from the FBI. If you are requesting records about a specific person that person needs to give you permission or be deceased. If the records are regarding an event, such as the Zodiac murders you can request those, too. Here is the link to the FBI page on requesting documents.

Also, the FBI has a library of documents that are available online. There are some pretty interesting subjects and people.
